I was thinking of that same review of “Reparations:…” by DeYoung! A recent Holy Post podcast hosted the author of “Reparations:…” and let him respond to the review. His observation (similar to yours) is that white reformed evangelicalism simply doesn’t historicize itself. It’s like they think their doctrines dropped from heaven into the minds of Calvin (skip forward 500 years) and then Piper. I grew up in Charismaticism and the most eye opening exploration of that movement for me was its history. The history gave me a context in which I could think critically about it. But, of course, the history is hardly ever taught and, if it is, it’s mostly hagiography. Great article!
